THE SCHNAUZER CLUB OF GAUTENG CODE OF ETHICS
In addition to the provision of the Kennel Union of Southern Africa Code of Ethics (schedule 9)
I undertake to adhere to the following provisions:
To promote the breeding of pure-bred Miniature Schnauzers, Schnauzers and Giant Schnauzers (herein after referred to collectively as Schnauzers unless otherwise stated), according to the Breed Standard as set down by KUSA.
To strive constantly for improvement of the breeds.
To give consideration to finding suitable homes for the puppies and not to release then until they have reached a minimum age of 8 weeks from date of birth.
To provide all persons acquiring a Schnauzer, whether by sale or gift or some other means, written details of all dietary and immunization requirements. This Schnauzer leaflet is obtainable from the Club at a minimal charge.
To maintain a clean, orderly kennel with all stock (puppies) sold to be in healthy condition with adequate treatment and care being given to minimise parasites and to ensure that the correct immunization against disease has or will be performed.
To keep accurate records of registration papers and pedigrees and to supply the new owner with the KUSA Certificate of Registration.
To avoid breeding with dogs lacking one or both testicles, undershot or overshot bites or any other genetic fault.
Anyone breeding with dogs who are known to have close relatives who are carriers or affected with progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) to take adequate measures when planning breeding programmes and to report to the Club should any finds of this disease become apparent.
Report to the Club any loss of sight in their dogs so that further investigative action may be taken by the Club for the benefit of the breed as a whole.
When Giant Schnauzers are used for breeding purposes both the sire and dam must have acceptable documentation attesting that they have hips which comply with accepted standards of normality.
To take great care to only breed with a dog and bitch of the same breed and to take special precaution to ensure the bitch’s safety during her season.
To not breed with a healthy bitch before she has reached her second (2nd) season or 12 months of age, whichever is the later, and thereafter in terms of KUSA regulations.
To avoid using a healthy stud dog before he has reached the age of one (1) year and to refuse a stud service to a bitch as mentioned above. Stud service agreements are available from the Club.
To agree to provide a securely fenced property on which to house my Schnauzer, with proper housing, shelter, food, attention, exercise and loving care.
To ensure that the Schnauzer is well groomed either by a parlour or by the owner. Parlour guideline charts indicating blade size are available from the Club. The Club will conduct grooming workshops to inform new owners of the correct methods in home grooming and feature articles on grooming in the Club newsletter.
To ensure that the correct innoculations, as required by law, are administered at the proper time and that should my Schnauzer become sick or injured, ensure prompt qualified medical attention.
To not permit my Schnauzer to engage in a dog fight.
When selling a litter of puppies to include the cost of one year’s membership to the Club, hence making the new owner a member.
